Paul Signac in Avignon
From 30 June to 15 October 2006
Colour memories of an artist in Provence…
Artist Paul Signac was sensitive to the vibrations of water and
light and conveyed in light watercolour touches the beauty of the
sites along the Rhône River: Avignon, Bourg-saint-Andéol,
Viviers… he travelled extensively all along the coast of
the Mediterranean, from Saint Tropez to Nice, never tiring of painting
nature and water, sizing the blue tenderness of dawn or the enchantment
of a sunset…
This exhibition shows 50 works out of public or private collections,
corresponding to all periods of the artist. Also exhibited: various
documents on the life of the artist, his relationships with Van
Gogh or Manguin, his interest for Stendhal and for travelling.
