Avignon, a strategic site in the Rhone valley, traces its origins to the towering Doms rock. With the arrival of the popes in the 14th century, the city became a second Rome. It was enriched
by art and architecture in the 17th and 18th  centuries, and it remained papal property up until after the French Revolution.

The Palace of the Popes
Popes’ residence in the 14th century,  the biggest Gothic palace in Europe. The visitor can discover 25 different rooms: reception halls, cloister, chapels and private papal apartment with priceless frescoes. Ranked by UNESCO as World Heritage for Humanity. New space dedicated to the song.

Le Pont St Bénezet
St Bénezet bridge, the bridge of legend.
Major symbol of Avignon history, known all over the world thanks to the beloved children’s song.
Built in the 12th century, it was damaged by raging flood waters of the Rhône river several times, and was constantly rebuilt until the 17th century. Ranked by UNESCO as World Heritage for Humanity. New space devoted to the famous song.

The name of this special events to the other name the Papal city of Avignon is known by, the “Other Rome”, or “Altera Roma”. Avignon organizes the great rose celebration, in the prestigious Benedict XII Cloister, and in the gardens of the palace, rarely opened to the public.

Exhibition: Contemporary art pays homage to Cézanne

The Collection Lambert, the contemporary art museum in Avignon, proposes an exhibition whose title defines the very fundamental role played by Paul Cézanne, a century after his death.
