The “In” and “Off” Festival in Avignon
July
Founded by Jean Vilar in 1947, the Festival d’Avignon is one of the oldest and most famous theater festivals in the world. During three entire weeks in July, the Festival presents the very best of contemporary European creation in the world of living theater. It is both avant garde and a reference. The “In” Festival programs 40 shows in some twenty different venues ranging from a small, 150-seat chapel to the Honor Courtyard at the Palace of the Popes, which seats 2000. The “Off” Festival takes over the entire center city with over 150 different plays proposed.

Nautical Parade
July in L’Isle sur la Sorgue
At night time, and as the closing ceremonies to the Festival de la Sorgue, this nautical parade features a battle of flowers and decorated floats, lit up at night on the water.

The Polymusicales in Bollène

July

Festival in Vaison la Romaine

The Vaison Festival has taken place for over 70 years in the outstanding venue of the Roman theater. International String Quartet Festival

July to September
Fontaine de Vaucluse, Roussillon, Goult, Isle sur la Sorgue, Cabrières d’Avignon.
Throughout the summer, a series of beautiful concerts for music lovers, performed in prestigious venues. This festival is organized by a committee of volunteers who share with the musicians the ambition of making each concert a true celebration, a time of perfect harmony. Historical Reconstitution
April to June in Mornas
Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. 5 performances a day at set times. July, August and September: Every day: 5 performances a day at set times.
Much more than a historical reconstitution, this is a trip back in time to the 13th century court and daily life at the Mornas fortress. Guards welcome the visitors as the enter the porte de la Barbacane, and explain the history of the site. The guards then lead you to the lord, who demonstrates his weapons and the table arts, prior to entering other rooms where storytellers tell of legends and historical events.

Medieval Market
1st Sunday in July in Mornas (Haut Vaucluse)
Each year for the past 12 years, time comes to a halt in Mornas. Valiant warriors and knights, minstrels and troubadours, gentle ladies and maids all take over the town. The streets are strewn with straw,
flowers and branches bedeck the signposts. Tents are raised and market stalls take over the streets, with food and drink under the shade of the plane trees.

The Féria of the Fountains

July in Pernes les Fontaines

The Grape Ripening Festival

The Night of Legends

August in Pernes les Fontaines
Starting at 9 pm, the audience is guided through the streets of the old village by torchlight. On a small square near the old washing well, storytellers, framed in the beautiful doorway of an old city mansion, or on the 18th century marketplace, tell stories and legends. When midnight comes around, street performances continue the magic created by the storytellers. Later, everyone gathers for a pistou soup served on the banks of the Nesque river. Music and entertainment.

Word of mouth has made this Font’Arts, street festival featuring theater and music, very famous. This festival transforms the historical city center in Pernes les Fontaines into a living stage for performances which are all free of charge. Artistic marathon in L’Isle sur la Sorgue
July
A real challenge! 24 hours non-stop of artistic creation for some thirty artists – painters, sculptors, graphic artists, recovery art creators, photographers and other genres, all of whom set up shop in the heart of L’Isle sur la Sorgue and in the gardens on the banks of the Sorgue. Starting on Friday at 5 pm and going until late Saturday afternoon, the artists work and the public watches, accompanying them sometimes till late at night. During these 24 hours, a series of group projects and spectacular special events. A giant cocktail hour ends the marathon, and inaugurates the exhibit of the work created during
the weekend.
